Sometimes in life, a helping hand is needed. Children and families seen at CARES are often advised to seek a treatment program focused on child trauma and/or child sexual abuse.

While it is tempting to "just forget about what happened and get on with your lives," research shows children don't forget. Unfortunately, many parents find when they believe their child has forgotten about their abuse that the trauma presents itself in different ways. These behaviors often cause further turmoil and upheaval in their young lives, and can be additionally upsetting to the family.

Therapeutic Intervention or Treatment with children who have been abused helps them to find healthy ways to communicate their feelings. Each child's therapy may be a little different. It is important to choose a therapist you and your child trust and feel comfortable being with. Also, keep in mind not only your child but your family has suffered from this event. It may also be helpful for you and/or other family members to seek the services of a counselor.

Klamath and Lake Counties are fortunate to have several providers who specialize in child trauma and/or sexual abuse. If you would like assistance in obtaining services for your family, contact the CARES Child/Family Advocate, who will be glad to be of help.
